BRIANJ 700x500 FRONT

Like many of us, I had slowly gained weight throughout my adult years. Career, family, church, and civic commitments allowed little time for good nutrition and exercise, or so I thought. The demands of the various facets of life put nutrition and exercise on the back burner. I had ignored my health for many years and my once athletic body had become out of shape and overweight. Daily tasks, such as, walking upstairs, getting into the car, and even rolling over in bed, had slowly became more difficult. My blood pressure was high, even with the assist of medication. I blamed it on getting older, but nothing could have been further from the truth. I had ignored my health so long that it was beginning to affect my daily life. Worse, I had begun to give up hope of ever losing significant weight and becoming in shape again. I reasoned with myself that it would be good enough if I could just be more “fit.” Occasionally I would go for a walk or visit the club to ride a bike. None of this had produced any significant change.

One day, my wife came home with a flier for the Life Time Fitness 60-Dday Challenge and asked if I would like to do it with her. I gave her the quick “maybe,” but inside I knew I would never do it, and hoped that was the end of it. A few days later, she asked me about it again and said she was going to the club to sign up. I reluctantly went with, but had no intention of signing up. I would just ride a bike for a while. By the time we got to the club, however, she had convinced me to sign up. It turned out to be one of the best things I have ever done.

I had tried various exercise and nutrition plans in the past, so I was not expecting much. But, after a Life Time fitness trainer explained to me a low-carb eating plan, I decided to give it a shot. The low-carb plan was immediately the best nutrition plan I had ever tried. I couldn’t believe that I could eat a LOT of food and still be losing weight! I am a volume eater and always have been. On this plan, I had to change the proportion of what I was eating, but not the amount! This plan along with regular low-intensity cardio and weight lifting really worked for me. I built in regular 1-hour visits to my Life Time fitness club and stuck to the low-carb plan, and the pounds began to fall off! I was so amazed at the effectiveness of this whole fitness plan and finding the time to spend an hour at the club was not difficult. Sometimes I was there early in the morning, sometimes after work, other times late at night. I found that I had the time, but I needed to make the commitment to my health and get to the club. The Life Time staff and environment were so encouraging and helpful. I now have so much more energy and just plain feel better every day! I have more energy at work and more patience at home. I have dramatically increased my leisure activity because I feel better all around. My whole lifestyle has changed. People have even remarked that I look 20 years younger. I lost 43 pounds during the 60-Day Challenge and it has completely changed my life! Instead of sitting on the couch, I am hiking, biking, or canoeing in my free time. Oh, and my blood pressure? It is now 105/60 without the aid of medication. Thank you Life Time Fitness for the putting out the Challenge, nutrition plan, and exercise regimen. I am a new man, husband, and father!
